Christmas Pets
So you're thinking about giving the family or a special friend a puppy or kitten for Christmas. Give us a minute to share some thoughts and ideas. Is it a good idea to surprise the family on Christmas day with a new pet?

  • Mistletoe
  • Holly
  • Poinsettia
  • Christmas tree
  • Christmas catctus
  • Lillies
Maybe not:
  • It can be stressful to the pet
  • Doesn't allow the family to be part of the picking process (i.e. breed, size, even color and markings)
  • Doesn't allow the family a chance to discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership (feeding, house training, walking, etc.)
What could we put under the tree to let the family know we will be getting a new pet?
  • Pet supplies (toys, bone, scratching post, etc.)
  • Gift certificate
  • Stuffed animal
Places to find that new pet?
  • Friends
  • Internet
  • Newspapers
  • Animal shelters
  • Rescue groups
Pets are lots of fun and provide endless love, but they are also a big responsibility. Too many people forget the responsibility part.
  • 20,000 pets are sent to shelters each year
  • 10,000 pets are placed in homes, but many of those left in shelters are euthanized
Please do what you can to help keep Austin's four legged friends healthy and alive.
