Cold Weather
Let's look at cold weather hazards for our pets:
  • Cats sometimes crawl under car hoods to sleep on the warm motor. To avoid serious cat injury, tap the hood of the car with your hand.
  • Providing shelter and keeping dry are the keys to protecting man and their pets from the cold.
  • Shelter is simple: Open the garage or provide a covered patio with a standby doghouse with its back facing northwest to protect the animal from the wind. Add bedding for comfort. Be sure to avoid carpet, astro turf, and other materials that hold moisture.

  • A wet pet in cold weather.
  • When hair is wet it flattens and results in loss of insulation. It also causes a significant loss of vital body heat. Solution: Towel dry your pet and if your animal is shivering from being in the cold, let it stay in the house. If your pet wants to go back outside, it's best to keep your adventurer in a confined area.
