Ear Mites
If your pet seems to constantly shake its head or scratch its ears, the problem could be ear mites. Look down the ear and if you see lots of brown wax or dark crusty stuff, it’s time to check for ear mites.

Here is a home ear mite treatment that definitely helps but most times, the mites return. Place a small amount of mineral oil down the ear everyday for three weeks – this mineral oil suffocates the mites. The problem – lots of mites live on the earflap or hair around the ear.

So, in about two or three weeks the scratching and head shaking comes back. Whether you use mineral oil or a treatment from you vet, to get rid of these ear mites once and for all you will have to treat all animals in the house.
