Antifreeze Toxicity
Whether it is summer or winter, we always make sure our car has plenty of antifreeze. The scary thing about antifreeze is that it is very deadly if ingested. To make things worse, pets like the sweet taste.
How dangerous is it?
- One teaspoon ingested by a cat is lethal and not much more is needed to make it lethal to dogs.
What are the signs of antifreeze toxicity?
- Stumbling or weaving as if the pet was drunk are early signs
- Depression and vomiting are later symptoms
Unfortunately, the pet can come out of the stumbling stage and actually look better before getting horribly worse.
My advice: Play it safe. If you think your pet has had contact with antifreeze - get to your vet. Early detection equals great results.
Playing it safe: Clean up any spills or overflow
