Household Dangers

Whenever we think about foods and products around the house that could be poisonous to our pets, we first think of chocolate. Believe it or not the sweet chocolate we eat and bake with is nowhere near the danger to our pets as some other household products.

There are lots of products around the house that could be toxic to our pets. The biggest problems I regularly see are flea and tick products like shampoos, dips, or sprays. Most times these products are overused, or dog products are used on cats. Another potential problem is if you put out baits to kill rodents, make sure the cat or dog cannot eat the baits or the poisoned rodents. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, even aspirin could be poisonous to pets. Plants around the house such as English Ivy and Tiger Lilies can be deadly to cats if they eat them. Interestingly, even grapes, onions, and raisins could make our pets sick. If you think your pet ate a poison, make note of the amount and the time of exposure and call your vet or the ASPCA Poison Hotline for help.
