Fever and High Temperature

How do I know if your pet is running a fever?

Owners ask us if a if a a wet or dry nose, or warm or cool ears, are indicators their pet has a fever.

Unless your pet has a marked fever which will have the pet’s body obviously warm to the touch, the only reliable way to know man or beast’s temperature is to use a thermometer.  The normal body temperature of a dog or cat is between 101 and 102 degrees.

Interestingly enough, animals’ warmer bodies are why fleas prefer to feed on our pets instead of us.
