Insect Stings
Bees, hornets and wasps are quick to sting our pets, especially curious puppies and kittens. How do you treat a pet with an insect sting? The first thing to do is to locate the place of the sting. Most pets pay lots of attention to this spot because it’s painful and starting to swell. Next, find the stinger in the middle of the swelling and remove it – tweezers and a magnifying glass are most helpful. For first aid, apply either a mixture of baking soda and water or, I believe an even better treatment, apply a small amount of Clorox bleach to the spot where you removed the stinger. You can also try to apply cold compresses on and off every five minutes, but most pets don't like this idea. Most important with insect stings, if you see swelling of the face and muzzle or disoriented walking by the stung pet – it’s time to quickly go to the vet.
