Exercise
Daily exercise is a must for a dog’s physical and mental health. Sure exercise is great to keep off weight and build muscles, but exercise also keeps your dog from being bored! Boredom quickly leads a dog to entertaining themselves with destructive chewing, backyard pot hole digging and loud howling and barking. Most dog owners think two walks a day or 10 minutes of yard play is enough exercise. This is true for dogs with bad arthritis. Unfortunately for any active breed especially the hound and herding breeds, this is barely a start. These active breeds love to exercise and are perfect for jogging, race walking or frisbee. Less active owners might offer border collies, shepherds or corgis the idea of herding a giant boomer ball. Retrievers like fetching items and beagles cannot get enough of chasing. For overweight and sedentary dogs, an exam by the vet is smart before starting an exercise program.
