Litter Boxes
Cat owners always want to know what is the best litter for their cat. Here’s the scoop on kitty litter. There are two basic types of litter and both are made from a clay material. The clumping litter is made of a fine clay that absorbs moisture forming a round clump. The pluses for clumping litter: reduces the odor, quick and easy to clean and cost effective because you don’t have to change the entire litter box. Non-clumping clay litter has been around forever. The advantages to this litter are cost and the larger size clay doesn’t stick to the cat’s feet, keeping the litter in the box. On the other hand, the regular clay litter requires cleaning every day and changing of the box weekly. Some cats are picky on litter type, so it is up to what the cat will use and the amount of time the cat owner wants to invest.
LITTER BOX PROBLEMS: If you have ever had that indoor cat stop using the litter box, you know you have a problem! Cats are creatures of habit. When a cat stops using the litter box, I first look for a change in the home – a new house guest, a new baby, you just got home from a vacation, to something as simple as moving the litter box. A new cat is the quickest way to have a cat miss the litter target. The answer could be as simple as getting the regular routine at home. Sometimes your cat is just saying change the litter more often or it’s time for this house to have a second litter box. Don’t forget some cats use missing the litter box to say they are sick. After trying the simple stuff without success, it is best to get in to see the vet.
