Rabies is a 100 percent fatal viral infection of the nervous system that can be contracted by any warm-blooded animal, including humans. Rabies is still a very real problem today. Some parts of the country are even placed under alert because of the highly infective nature of this disease. To protect the public from the hazards of rabies, all dogs and cats are required by state law to be vaccinated. Since there is no cure, prevention is the focus.
