Feline Leukemia
Cat clients know their cat needs a yearly rabies and distemper vaccine, but most clients are a little confused on which cats need a feline leukemia vaccine.

First of all, the cat leukemia virus is passed from cat to cat by direct contact. Direct contact means an infected mother cat passing the leukemia virus to her nursing kittens or a sick adult cat grooming or fighting with a healthy cat.

Now knowing how the virus is passed, it is a smart move for all outdoor cats or indoor cats that have contact with an outdoor cat to receive the feline leukemia vaccine. The vaccine is not routinely recommended for an indoor-only cat that has no contact with outside cats. Please, anytime you get a new cat, have it tested for feline leukemia – not all cats with this virus act sick.
