Holiday Decorations
There are certain ornaments and decorations that could cause problems for your pets. Most of the snow, icicles, and tree ornaments shouldn't be a problem. Yet, puppies and kittens could break and eat tree ornaments and have severe intestinal upset. Feed bread or cottage cheese and call your vet.

Older ornaments such as "bubble lights" contain methylene chloride and can be very dangerous if ingested. Angel hair, used in manger scenes, is less dangerous but can cause problems. Again, feed your pet bread or cottage cheese and call your vet.

Keep puppies and kittens away from electrical cords.

Water in Christmas tree stands, that keep the tree green, is very high in sugar. This allows bacteria to grow. Symptoms to watch out for are severe diarrhea and vomiting.

Another hazard to watch out for is liquid potpourri. Cats are especially prone to this poisoning. The product, when ingested, causes severe mouth, esophagus, and stomach burns. A few licks of this are enough to cause problems. It is recommended to flush the mouth with diluted milk and call your vet.
