We have rabies in the fox and coyote population located in both south and west Texas. This rabies problem is so severe that we spend over a million dollars each year on bait drops to vaccinate these animals.
Lastly, Texas shares 1,200 miles of border with Mexico. Mexico has a high incidence of rabies in their wildlife and pet population, and animals are easily crossing the border.
Because of the prevalence of rabies in Travis County and surrounding counties, our clinic does yearly rabies vaccinations for the safety of our pets, clients, and our staff, as well as the general public.
