Scabies
You hear people say, stay away from that "mangie" dog – you and your dog could catch the mange!

It’s true – the mange mite Scabies can be passed to dog and, rarely, people by contact with an infected dog. If you see a dog with flaky skin, especially around the ears and elbows, and this poor hound cannot stop scratching, scabies mite is on my list to check for.

Treatment is easy with a couple of shots at the vet or a special dip used at home. These mites can live off the dog so it is also time for new pet bedding.

In order for you to avoid scabies, remember to wash your hands and limit handling until the dog’s treatment for scabies is complete.
