Now for the pet that likes to go to tick-infested places, the easy answer is to apply a topical flea preventative that also prevents ticks. If you do all this and still find a tick on the pet, I recommend spraying the tick with a safe flea/tick product and let the tick die and fall off. If you are one of those that have to pull a tick, please use tweezers or wear gloves. People can get diseases carried by ticks from compressing too hard with their fingers on a tick.
Lyme Disease for both humans and dogs is usually contracted from the deer tick. If you are taking your pet into an area known for ticks, apply a flea/tick preventative product on your pet several days before entering this area. Never pull a tick off an animal because the tick could expose you to Lyme Disease; instead, spray ticks on a pet with an insecticide that is safe for the pet.
